Dine with dignity with the Providence Living difference

At Providence Living at Maitland, we understand the challenges that mealtime and eating can present to those with memory impairment. Loss of appetite is a common side effect of dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease, so it is important to present visually appealing and aromatic foods. Why is food so important in memory care? We’re glad you asked.

Men and women who are challenged with dementia or memory loss often find it difficult to use silverware, chew, and swallow. Additionally, memory challenges can cause distractions and result in low interest in mealtimes, or sudden food aversions. Forgetting to eat in a timely fashion may result in poor nutrition. There may also be underlying health concerns that interfere with proper absorption of food or are displeasurable for your loved one.

Our certified dementia caregivers and staff understand these challenges and collaborate with our families to provide a multi-sensory dietary plan that is enjoyable and optimally nutritious. We help identify the right dining setting for your loved one to ensure that mealtimes are successful and enjoyable. We offer palatable menu choices and honor our residents’ dietary preferences.

Dementia doesn’t rob someone of their dignity. It’s our reaction to them that does.
